Exchange Programs and Students

The department currently has two exchange schemes with overseas universities, The University of Chicago in the U.S.A. and Heidelberg in Germany.

In the case of Chicago, the scheme is particularly designed for Ottomanists and involves an exchange with the Department of History of the University of Chicago for one year. It includes a tuition waiver and free accommodation on both sides.

In the case of Heidelberg, the scheme is probably more suitable to Europeanists from Bilkent whose subject has a German connection or who are working on the Early Middle Ages, though Ottomanists and Americanists may also be considered. It is most likely that Ottomanists will come from Heidelberg. It involves an exchange stay of one or two semesters and basically consists of a tuition waiver, though our department may be able to help with the accommodation costs in Heidelberg. Students from Bilkent will need to have a certain degree of proficiency in German.

For more information on the exchange programs, contact Dr. Kenneth Weisbrode of the history department.
